Q: How do I choose what to paint?

Anna will help guide you in selecting a suitable image to paint, taking into account your interests and skill level. Students are encouraged to paint large.

Q: How long does it take to complete a painting?

Paintings are usually completed within eight weeks. However, this timeframe can be longer depending on the complexity of the image and your current skill level.

Q: I'm a FIFO worker/I work shifts, what flexible class options are there?

You can ask Anna about fortnightly classes and casual sessions. Classes are available for people who have shift hours or prefer fortnightly sessions. If you're unable to make a class, just let Anna know and she will help find another suitable session.

Beginner Art Classes Perth

Over the 5 – 8 week course you will learn:

using underpainting to construct your composition
the fundamentals of colour including mixing and application
how to achieve a strong painting composition through colour tone and texture

From working with a photograph of either a still life or landscape, you will learn how to do a tonal underpainting in acrylics, learn how to mix realistic colours in oils and learn the importance of brushwork and colour harmony. Medium sized paintings will be covered in this course.

Intermediate Art Classes Perth

Following on from a Beginner Course, or if you have prior painting experience, the Intermediate Course is recommended.

Over the course you will develop further understanding of:

developing a strong composition – how to frame and create your art through balancing form, structure and tone
colour mixing beyond the basics – achieve harmony and contrast to capture mood and interest
tonal understanding beyond the basics – create tonal contrast for strong form, mood and dramatic effect

This course is designed to develop your painting skills further building on from the beginner course. You’ll learn how to achieve a more dramatic effect for your compositions. More complicated still life, floral, figures and landscapes may be explored with students producing medium and large scale paintings.

Advanced Art Classes Perth

For the painters who wish to develop their own unique painting styles this course is for you.

Over the course you will:

be guided in developing larger, original artworks
develop further understanding of structure, tone and composition to create your own original dramatic art works
develop advanced understanding of colour – using colour contrast, colour harmonies and half tones, and the importance of contrasting warm and cool areas of colour
learn glazing for more advanced colour work
learn the edging techniques of The Masters

Large portraits, landscape and abstract paintings will be produced in this course, with students encouraged to develop their own unique style though application of the advanced skills learned in this course.

Anna will provide a list of required materials suitable for painting in oils and acrylics. Most materials may be ordered online.

Where will I keep my painting for storage between lessons?

You are able to keep your painting and materials at Anna’s studio while doing the painting course.

Where is your art studio located?

My studio is centrally located at 59 Guildford Rd, Mount Lawley.

  Anna is such a gem. Really accomodating, felt like I was painting with a friend. I had never touched oils but paint for fun in my spare time and felt like I had learnt so much in the couple of weeks I was there. She provided really good guidance and tips - especially around technique and colour theory which is what I wanted to know more about!   I hadn't picked up a brush since I was a teenager so I was apprehensive (can I get a beginner-beginner's course please?).  Anna is an amazing artist, and an even more amazing art teacher.  I am learning so much and my confidence grows with each lesson.  Art class has quickly become my favourite night of the week.   I am chuffed with my first attempt at painting in oils, achieved with Anna’s warm and encouraging guidance.
Anna is friendly, positive and vivacious. Lessons were always fun. Working in her lovely studio was an added bonus.
Now I need to practice a bit on my own but I’ll definitely be back as I have so much more to learn and I know Anna has so much more to share!
I definitely recommend Anna to anyone nervous about how and where to start putting paint to canvas, as I was, but for sure those who have already got painting experience will also get a lot from these classes.
